For my English speaking students

For my friends who wish to improve their etiquette skills while travelling to a French speaking country, here are a few tips. They have been taken from Les Miscellanées 2010.

- When you meet someone new, in French it is bad manners to say: "Comment allez-vous ?".
- When being introduce to an older person you have to add Monsieur or Madame after expressing your regards: " bonjour Madame " or " bonjour Monsieur ". You should NOT add their last name like " bonjour Monsieur Stock ".
- Never introduce your spouse by " mon époux " or " mon épouse ". Instead go for " mon mari ", " ma femme ".
- When someone says " Merci ", you should always answer " je vous en prie ".

You should never feel shy trying to speak another language. It shows your consideration and you know what? there is nothing wrong with doing a few mistakes...I find it rather charming!

Best regards, avec mes meilleures salutations
